He has presented numerous advantages such as improved immune response, reduction of clinical compl ications, as well as cost and length of stay reductions. In this sense, the present study has the objective to assess the nutritional status of patients and the presence of gastrointestinal complications in patients using enteral nutritional therapy treate d at the University Hospital LauroWanderley in João Pessoa - Paraíba. The sample consisted of 10 individuals of both sexes admitted to the medical clinic of this hospital, in use of exclusive enteral nutrition. To collect data anthropometry, biochemical meas urements and analysis of the questionnaire for the presence of gastrointestinal complications was performed. According to the results, 6 patients were female aged between 31 and 65 years old, cancer and pancreatitis were the diagnostics in greater proporti on. It was observed that 5 patients were on nasogastric being more frequent intermittent method. With respect to arm circumference, 4 patients had moderate malnutrition in arm muscle circumference 4 had mild malnutrition is more prevalent in males. Was obs erved in 4 patients, mostly male, were nourished by the appropriateness of triceps skinfold thickness. Regarding BMI, 7 patients were classified as eutrophic, with 3 elderly. Showed hypoalbuminemia, hyperglycemia, anemia and low levels of creatinine. It wa s observed that all patients had a type of GI complication is more frequent diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. It was found that patients presented with protein - energy malnutrition with depletion of lean mass and fat mass preservation. Therefore, it is necessa ry to monitor the nutritional status in order to maintain body reserves, decrease the risk of malnutrition and complications that may prevent the intake of nutritional needs.","abstract_html":"The Enteral Nutrition Therapy (NET) has been routinely used as a successful alternative to improve the nutritional status in hospitalized patients.
