This context can lead to the development of acute and / or chronic, which increases the risk of suppressing the immune system stress, and thus fosters the appearance of opportunistic infections. Research in the last two decades have shown that the amount and type of fat consumed in the human diet can significantly alter the biological response of the organism. Logo comes up, aiming to investigate the anti-inflammatory fatty acids omega polyunsaturated (PUFA-n3) to individuals subjected to intense physical activity action. This literature review aimed to gather the studies about the influence of n3-PUFA on the immune system of athletes. For this purpose, conducted literature searches in databases: Lilacs (Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences) SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), PubMed, Google Scholar and VHL (Virtual Health Library), and so were selected studies conducted between 2000 and 2013 from the selected studies, some experiments could achieve positive results on the immunosuppressive effect of Omega 3 However, in some research it was not possible to observe positive changes in markers of exercise-induced inflammation in response to supplementation with PUFA-n3. These facts can be attributed, among other factors, the lack of standardization of the amount of Omega 3 offered to participants, since we can observe a variation between 600 mg and 4432 mg in the studies cited. The small number of studies conducted so far, and its distinctive and controversial results lead us to conclude that further research needs to be conducted with a larger sample, longer running time, and especially with the offer and similar dietary intake n3-PUFA by the attendees.","abstract_html":"Athletes are daily exposed to high loads of training with prolonged execution and inadequate recovery periods.
