Relação entre saúde materno-infantil e insegurança alimentar em famílias com recém-nascidos de João Pessoa-PB.
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe food insecurity (Insan) is linked to worsening of infectious and deficiency diseases in some regions and population groups at risk, especially in children and pregnant women. The mother-child group is distinguished by great nutritional vulnerability to which they are subject, as well as demands that require priority in assistance. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the relationship between factors involved in maternal and child health and the situation of food insecurity in families with newborns living in the city of João Pessoa / Paraíba, through the application of the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale . This is a study of a birth cohort, initiated in Candida Institute Vargas and Maternity Frei Damiao, João Pessoa. The population corresponded to pregnant women admitted in hospitals, and their children, who were seen at birth and after the second month of life. Mothers living in Joao Pessoa, should not present with psychiatric or metabolic problems, and have agreed to participate and signed the informed consent form - IC. No mothers who had some involvement to influence the frequency of occurrence of outcomes measured in the study were included. Data collection occurred in two stages, the first mothers in maternity hospitals totaling 380 participants, key information was collected personal data, anthropometry of children, and prepregnancy weight in late pregnancy and obstetric history. The second in the family home, where a semi-structured questionnaire was administered containing data on weight and height of the mother; morbidities of children and implementation of the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale (EBIA), totaling 222 mothers. Data were analyzed using the statistical program SPSS, version 21.0. The results showed that 41% of mothers were in a situation of food security; 43.2% in Food Insecurity Light; 9.0% moderately food insecure and 6.8% in Severe Food Insecurity, totaling 41% SAN and 59% in INSAN. Regarding the exposed group (ia ia moderate + severe) and unexposed (sa + was mild), 15.8% of households were classified as exposed and 84.2% as not exposed. The age of mothers in food insecurity (71.4%) was higher (25-35 years) (p = 0.010) and had more children (85.7%) (p = 0.000). Regarding nutritional status in late pregnancy was no significant difference (p = 0.030) between the groups, where mothers were food insecure with greater underweight (18.8%), and food safety with higher levels of overweight (31 1%) and obese (26.3%). There was no relationship between the type of birth and sex of the child and the situation of food (in) security (p = 0.201) (p = 0.082), respectively. There was no relationship between anemia (p = 0.429), fever (p = 0.406) and cough (p = 0.540), but was seen a trend of children in households in food insecure, experiencing more diarrhea (17.1%) and ear pain (8.6%) (p = 0.051). It is noticed that food insecurity is still a determinant factor in the health of the population, especially vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and children. So that, studies like this are needed to assess the situation of food (in) security of the population in various locations around the country and detect different nutritional realities.
