Its subject of investigation concentrates on the Route for Pedestrians in Historic Downtown of João Pessoa (acronym in Portuguese Roteiro para Pedestres no Centro Histórico de João Pessoa), pointing out the elements of the urban touring space based on the theoretical thoughts of Kevin Lynch and especially Roberto Boullón, described through “public areas”, “landmarks”, “sections” and “routes”. The methodology was based on bibliographic and documentary surveys and a case study research. As empirical material we used the data from the Master Plan of Tourism of João Pessoa (PDT) and the Project Route for Pedestrians, accessed through the “Secretaria Municipal de Turismo de João Pessoa”. Field observations and photographic documentary complement the information necessary to this proposition. Face the elements that are inserted into the Pedestrian Route, we observe little intervention actions in favor of cultural heritage of João Pessoa central area, except for the recent project of urban redevelopment and revitalization of the “Casa da Pólvora”. In addition, some signposts that guide tourists along the way are quite deteriorated. The Route is not contemplated in the city PDT and neither is promoted and/or sold by major local tourism agencies. Therefore, it is not possible to say accurately that the Route incorporates planning actions of João Pessoa, either as part of urban policies or plans for tourism development.","abstract_html":"This study consisted in analyzing the elements of the urban touring space on the central area of João Pessoa, emphasizing its historical, political and cultural aspects that permeate the relationship between urban planning and touring planning.
