Within this context, the textbook Matemática – Contexto e Aplicações - vol III, used in the third grade of secondary education of these schools, was analyzed following, mainly, the ideas proposed by Geraldo Avila in your articles to the Revista do Professor de Matemática. Initially, the theory of Avila was organized in three main points, presentation of the concepts of Calculus during the three years of high school, working in conjunction with other sciences, especially with physics, and constant interaction between the concepts of limits, differential calculus and integrals with other mathematical concepts, primarily functions and analytical geometry. A chronological resume is designed to show how it developed teaching Calculus in Brazil until today, trying to establish what went wrong and how the study of this subject is important now in face of the increasing technological and scientific development of contemporary society. Also, the PROEMI is described observing their legal framework and its potential in order to make any changes to the high school curriculum. Still in the workflow, the importance of the textbook for the math teacher is discussed, as well as the politics that aims to manage and ensure the existence of this teaching resource for students of public education. As a last point, It was analyzed the eighth chapter of the aforesaid work and arrive at the conclusion that the treatment given to the subject is superficial and the theme is presented in a synthesized form, so the book is not suited to the profile of calculus teaching suggested by Ávila.","abstract_html":"This work aims to verify how the calculus is presented in high school in the state schools of the city of Campina Grande that are part of the PROEMI.
