Such analysis, is justified by the lack of studies with this aim, we investigate the genesis of the rains in the city of João Pessoa, in addition to this factor, said the city currently has advanced in the pace of its urbanization which implies greater environmental vulnerability population, requiring a more detailed understanding of atmospheric dynamics and especially of her influence on the most significant climatic elements, like rain. To carry out this research was adopted as a methodological procedure Rhythmic Analysis of climate proposed by Monteiro (1971). In the first stage of work, we analyzed the variability of rainfall through the time series data. The time series has received the following statistical methods: calculation of average, minimum and maximum values, standard deviation and percentage change. We also analyzed the annual, seasonal and monthly rainfall distribution for selection of standard years (dry, normal and wet) representative of the series from 1983 to 2012. In the second phase, the masses and active weather systems in the study area and the participation of each for the years considered standard were identified. Through this survey it was identified that the most important for the pre-rainy season weather system is the ITCZ, this is responsible for most of the total rainfall in this period. In the rainy season, the system increased participation is the easterly waves, thus being responsible for the total rainfall in this period.
