A educação nas prisões brasileiras, estudo de caso: penitenciária de segurança máxima criminalista Geraldo Beltrão em João Pessoa - PB.

The present study proposes an investigation of the possibilities of education in the Brazilian prison system, more specifically in Brazil, as a tool for behavior change of prisoners, provided through educational practices. The limits of incarceration in prisons constitutes a method of institutionalization of punishment, whose purpose is to make people docile, through a routine that expropriation of the custodial sentence that meet their understanding of what it means to be a constituent part of society by denying their human condition, on behalf of a concern for safety and revenge detriment of the prisoner and destroying their social identity, leading to a subculture of the jail. The terrible conditions in which the penalty is conducted in confinement are potentiated by the structural weaknesses of prisons; proliferation of diseases, idleness, overcrowding among others, constitute obstacles to the resocialization of convicts, not answering the individualization of the sentence. Education is understood as a liberating instrument, giving the man a chance to see the world in which it is inserted, this being responsible for his fate, this described in national and international normative texts, opposing the reality of the penitentiary system. Basing on the analysis of reports and bibliographic prison professionals, apenados and experience gained on the spot, the study allowed understanding the education in prison units, even with a large number of obstacles, the beautiful Jacuzzi of a new reality, unrelated crime.
