Utilização do geoprocessamento no mapeamento criminal na região metropolitana de João Pessoa – PB.

Violence is one of the social phenomena that most concerns society in recent years. The use of geotechnologies has shown very effective in the spatialization of the phenomenon of criminality, mainly with the technological advances of the geographic information system. This work aimed to demonstrate the use of the geoprocessing in crime mapping in the metropolitan region of João Pessoa. Following this view, it had been done a statistical survey of the numbers of homicides occurred in the metropolitan region of João Pessoa and, with those data, graphics, tables and maps were made of the numbers of intentional lethal violent crimes (ILVC) by cities of the metropolitan region as well as by gender and neighborhoods of João Pessoa. As result, there was a panorama of the current situation of the metropolitan region according to the numbers of homicides that occurred in the cities surveyed. João Pessoa had high homicide rates, higher than those acceptable by the World Health Organization, making the city figure as the second place among the most violent cities in Brazil.
