Pilar - PB: uma pequena cidade economicamente dependente.

In general lines, this assignment is framed in the field of the “Urban Geography”. That affirmation is based, so, on the fact that the main issue is related to a scientific investigation about the topic: city. In a more specific way, it is noted that the Monograph belongs to the field of the studies about the following content: urban network. That is because this research deals, precisely, with the life of relationships in a system of cities. It is, therefore, an analysis which involves a set of cities, constituted by a system of relationships in a determined region. Such relationships are established in cities among themselves, and, equally, among themselves and the rural zone of the same regional unit already mentioned. As object of study, one points out that the Monograph presents the City of Pilar, located in the State of Paraiba, Northwest Region of Brazil. As for the assignment goals, it is shown that it has as the main objective, the analysis of the factors of Pilar urban dependence in relation to the others cities in its surroundings. In this case, in relation to larger and more important cities of the system of the cities network to which Pilar belongs, since Pilar constitutes itself, in fact, in a small urban center in its immediate region. That’s why, it’s necessary to clarify that the research aims, as well, to point out the main causes that determine such category of urban subordination. Concerning to the justification of the theme choice, it points out that the main aspect was to try to observe how, in fact, the urban and economic dynamic works in a small city, about its relationship with the others urban nucleus situated in its surroundings. Principally, with the larger and more important cities near it. In relation to the Methodology used, in order to subsidize the assignment, it was used two main types of methodological procedures. The first was bibliographic survey research, based on texts of the main authors that discuss about the issue mentioned. The second methodological procedure constitutes itself in the named research technics. It is shown, so, that in this stage of the research, it was made a large fieldwork based on a series of interviews, and also with the application of questionnaires to the local community.
