The harsh socioeconomic and sanitary conditions contribute to the high prevalence of parasitic diseases in Brazil. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate intestinal parasites in children and food handlers, determine the frequency of intestinal parasites, as well as knowing the conditions of personal hygiene and health education of the community participating in the study and ultimately promote prevention in a nursery in the city of João Pessoa - PB. The methodology of this study co nsisted of parasitological examinations of participants, questionnaires and application of socioeconomic and educational lectures with study participants in order to promote the prevention games. Of the 69 samples analyzed, 26 (37.7 %) were food handlers a nd 43 (62.5 %) were children . Among the 39 positive samples (57 %), 26 (66.6 %) referred samples of children and only 13 (33.3 %) were of food handlers. Protozoa found that most were the two diners species: Endolimax nana and Entamoeba coli , although these species do not cause damage to the health of the host, are considered markers of hygiene of the population. With helminthes, the most commonly isolated species was Trichuris trichiura , Ascaris lumbricoides and then the helminthes Ancylostomatidae the fami ly. Socioeconomic questionnaires applied revealed living conditions of the community is not as precarious but some sou rce of contamination is present , since it was found a high incidence of parasitism . It was observed that the population is lacking in educ ational measures therefore educational activities are important and should be implemented so that we can have prevention and control of intestinal parasites .","abstract_html":"Intestinal parasites are considered a serious public health problem and the most affected age group is children, especially because these do not have adequate hygiene habits and also due to such immunity.
