The objective of this work was the preparation and characterization of polymeric films xanthan ( GX ) and poly ( vinyl alcohol ) ( PVA ) chemically crosslinked with citric acid (CA ) for further application in controlled release of drugs . Infrared analysis showed possible interactions between the polymers in the blend and the incorporation of crosslinker into the polymer matrix. Tests of solubility and swelling of the blends GX / PVA / AC showed synergism of the properties of GX / AC and PVA / AC in the blend films.
