Therefore, this study investigated the occurrence of intestinal parasites in HIV - positive patients seen at Clementino Fraga Hospital ( C . H . C . F . ) in João Pessoa – PB. Tracing a enteroparasitologic and epidemiological profile of patients research and identify the age and gender of patients affected by intestinal parasitic infections . It was observed that 175 samples were positive for the presence of at least one species of intestinal parasites . The highest incidence was observed in males, with 121 occurrences . Regardin g the distribution by age group , we observed a higher frequency of positive results in adults 31 - 50 years old, 21 - 30 years and 51 - 60 years, respectively, as compared between patients an d hospital outpat ient origin. In positive tests , we found a total of 293 parasites, and of these , there were 229 occurrences of protozoa and helminths of 64. The enteroparasitologic profile found was: Entamoeba coli (28 . 67%), Endolimax nana (22. 18%), Giard ia lamblia (22. 18%), Entamoeba histolytica/En tamoeba dispar (5. 12%), Iodamoeba butschlii (0. 34%) , Ascaris lumbricoides (19 . 45%), Ancylostomatidae (0 . 68%), Strongyloides stercoralis (1. 37%) e Trichuris trichiura (0. 34%). Thus , we found a high frequency of HIV - positive patients enteroparasi tados by both commensal species , highlighting the E. coli and E. nana as well as pathogenic G. lamblia , A. lumbricoides , and one should be given due attention by the negative effects they may cause in patients with HIV .","abstract_html":"People with HIV are threatened by a large number of diseases caused by different biological agents.
