Qualidade fisiológica das sementes de duas variedades de milho submetidas ao controle químico de plantas daninhas

The Corn (Zea mays L.) is among the most important in Brazil. In Paraíba its importance is undeniable, as the product of food intake, activity and occupation as the manpower family farm. The objective of this study was assessing the quality of seeds of two varieties of maize subjected to application of herbicides in two different doses. The evaluations were performed at the Laboratory of Seed Analysis, from Department of Plant Science, belonging to the Center of Agrarian Sciences (CCA) of the Federal University of Paraíba, during the period from June to October 2011. We evaluated the following parameters: dry matter weight (DMW) first count test (FCT), emergence (EME), emergence speed index (ESI). The following experiment was a factorial 2 x 2 x 3 two varieties, two herbicides and three doses, using the randomized block design, constituting 12 treatments and two blocks totaling 24 experimental units. The units were composed of three lines of 5 m, with spacing of 0.8 m. There was a significant effect on the 5% level of probability for the variable doses only for emergence (EME) in the 1% level of probability for varieties there was a significant variable for dry matter weight (DMW), and level of 5% probability for herbicides were significant, except for the first count test (FCT) for variable speed index of emergence (ESI) there was no significant difference. Thus, we can say that the use of herbicides for weed control, influenced directly and significantly to a better physiological quality of corn seeds. The mixture atrazine + metolachlor showed greater efficiency, but do not differ significantly between doses. The variety of corn AL Bandeirante showed greater efficiency on the front of the Regional variety herbicides, which influenced for better physiological quality of seeds.
