The sample were formed of all the results of serological exams, obtained by chemiluminescenc e immunoassay, users with toxoplasmosis suspected met during the period from October 2012 to April 2013, for a total of 800 exams. This is a retrospective, descriptive, transversal analysis based on data from the files of the clinical laboratory HULW . Amo ng the 83.38% charts analyzed, patients were females, 15.88% males and only 0.75% were from newborns. Through IgG research , 468 (58.50%) were positive, 322 (40.25%) negative and 10 (1.25%) were indeterminate. While in IgM research revealed that only 19 (2 .38%) patients had positive toxoplasmosis serology. It was found that the most affected age group were those of reproductive age. The compiled data revealed a high frequency of toxoplasmosis seropositive individuals, but the majority were in disease chroni c phase. Analyzing by gender, it was found IgG and IgM positivity was predominantly female patients. All newborns were IgG seropositive , thus it is necessary the accompaniment to analyze if the antibody was passed by the mother or the infant is produci ng. Patients with 21 - 30 presented themselves as predominant age group IgG positive, noting that this was also the group most subject to examinations. However on the IgM positivity, the age group predominant was users aged between 11 and 20. This study sho wed the need to adopt educational campaigns with the propose to promote the toxoplasmosis prevention.","abstract_html":"Toxoplasmosis is a protozoan with high seroprevalence rates, which etiological agent is Toxoplasma gondii, but the severe clinical conditions are more often diagnosed in newborns and immunocompromised , Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the occurrence in toxoplasmosis seropositive individuals in Lauro Wanderley Uni versity Hospital (HULW) from João P essoa city , where users are served the entire state.
