Cidades sustentáveis: gênese e perspectivas.

The current situation which we live alerts to the natural resources depletion over economic development based on the capital accumulation. From awareness about the environmental issues comes a global concern about where begins to establish the concept of eco development and posteriorly the concept of sustainability. This paper presents the results starting from the literature relative to the sustainable cities concept, as well as their guiding concepts and historical developments in chronological order for the purpose of bringing current reality some examples of sustainable cities and attitudes to be taken to the deployment of the concept in all cities of the world, aiming at a sustainable development formed the tripod: economic development, social development and environmental preservation.
