For this, we choose some theorists who treat the topic as Van de Walle (2009), Lorenzato (2008), among others, and some official documents such: Brazil (1998) and IDEB (2003). The research methodology was characterized by being a descriptive study about the objectives and a simple case study regarding data analysis, using as main tool for data collection a semi-structured questionnaire. Participants were 43 students of the ninth (9th) year of elementary school two public institutions belonging to the municipality of São Miguel de Taipu, Paraíba, in the period September-October 2012. At the end of the study found that students have a diverse profile, and still much difficulty in basic mathematical contents that refer to situations everyday involving the areas of arithmetic, geometry and algebra. We also see the presence of resolution strategies that refer to the same logical structure and organization shown by most students observed. The survey also showed little use of the methodology Troubleshooting schools investigated, requiring further discussions in schools, whose absence compromises the educational development of students, a fact that deserves attention of public authorities.","abstract_html":"The present study was aimed to make a brief investigative analysis on how the students at the end of elementary school solve mathematical problems involving basic situations everyday.
