O ensino de matemática nas escolas da rede municipal de Pombal – PB: entre os PCN e a sala de aula.

We carried out a diagnosis of teaching practices of mathematics in the final grades of Basic Education in public schools of Pombal, Paraíba. We aimed to analyze whether methodologies used by teachers in classrooms are actually producing meaningful learning. We applied questionnaires to teachers of the schools E.M.E.F. Decisão, E.M.E.F Nossa Senhora do Rosário and E.M.E.F. Professor Newton Seixas. We found that there is a need to diversify teaching methodologies and resources used by teachers to develop a democratic education for life and citizenship.
