Contextualizando à matemática: o caso da porcentagem.

This research aimed to make an analysis on the performance of students in understanding the context of the mathematical content of Percentage. The study was conducted with two groups of 9 years Basic Education: College of the Diocesan Bishop John of Matha and Normal School Teacher Francelino Neves de Alencar, the city of Itaporanga, Paraiba. Approach theorists who discuss the foundation for our discussions in context as Smole and Diniz (2001), Dante (1991) and Van de Walle (2009). The methodology was qualitative research approach to descriptive and analytical. We use the semi-structured questionnaire as the main instrument for data acquisition. 32 students participated in the study at the College Diocesan Bishop John of Matha and 26 students of the Normal School Teacher Francelino Neves de Alencar. The method was adopted for analysis of data was the case study. At the end of this study found that most students of the Diocesan College has a good knowledge regarding the interpretation and resolution of problems and situations with the percentage calculations, charting and column sections, but even though there is a lack of interest by part of some students regarding the domain of content for learning the basic percentage. In contrast we found that the students of the Normal School had, in most cases, well below the result we expected, demonstrating a lack of knowledge regarding the content of Percentage.
