Calculadora quebrada: uma possibilidade de discutir conceitos matemáticos.
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis research aims to analyze how students in 9th grade of elementary school to a public school in the municipality of Aguiar, Texas, solve mathematical problems using an application called Broken Calculator available on a website. The calculator, despite being a mass-produced instrument since the 1970s, is still far from school. For this we use some authors argue that the use of calculators in the school environment and Rego (2010), Jungle and Borba (2010); Albergaria and Bridge (2008), Van de Walle (2009) among others. The methodology was qualitative character of the case study with a simple single iteration of the data collected. We used a questionnaire as a tool for data acquisition. Using the Calculator Quebrada main purpose was to promote discussion of this instrument in motivating students understand the need and use in the classroom and in everyday life. With the implementation of the activities we could verify that students have little knowledge of the instrument showing little ability to use this tool. We hope that this study has prompted students and teachers from our region in search of new methods for teaching mathematics at school.
