Quem somos e o que pensamos? os bibliotecários paraibanos formados na primeira década do Século XXI e sua profissão

Analyzes the profession of librarianship from the perspective of librarians trained at the Federal University of Paraiba in the first decade of century XXI (2000 - 2010). The survey's main objective is to understand the perception of librarians formed in Paraíba in the first decade of century XXI about their profession, from seizure of their social representations. The research is descriptive, of quantitative and qualitative nature, and uses as an instrument data collection questionnaires with open and closed questions. Data analysis is based on the categorization technique, present in the content analysis. The results point to professional females aged below 35 years old, single, white, working primarily in libraries and/or as teachers, averaging 3 to 5 minimum wages. It was also found that these professionals see themselves as information professionals, aware that they need to develop new skills and abilities that allow them to insert themselves actively in the context of the information society with a sense of social responsibility.
