Biblioteca Escolar: um recurso para a formação do leitor

The present work is about the school library as an indispensable resource to the development of reading as a social factor, permitting that it could be former of opinion, a critical and acting citizen that could comprehend himself and the world around him. It is believed that the reading practice needs to be encouraged early, in the familiar ambit and extending to the school. The objective is to characterize the participation of school library in the formation of the reader. The theoretical foundation is based on Caldin, Campello, Fragoso, among others, who affirm that school library has great influence in develop the reading interest of students. The methodology used research case study and descriptive research, and the environment of the research is the Library of the Municipal Elementary School Aruanda, situated in João Pessoa. Moreover, the data collection was done by means of semi-structured interview. In the obtained results, it is highlighted that school library still has not its space of supporting instrument to teaching-learning assured in the configuration of school. In addition, it is notorious that the lack of a qualified professional, participative and conscious of his role in the library, weakens the participation of library in the formation of reader. It is also verified that the dialogue with teachers is practically inexistent, which makes it impossible the effectiveness of library to the teaching-learning. Furthermore, all these points corroborate with the chronic situation of the reality of library not only in a local way, but also in a national one. Therefore, it is concluded that it is a set of needs that makes impossible the acting of library in face of its pedagogical role. The library should be recognized and valorized by all the school staff, and its pertinence should be inserted in the political and pedagogical project of the school. Facing the innumerable contributions that a librarian, who is conscious of his role of educator, too, active, dynamic who can help to develop in the students the reading habit, in a pleasant way, in which reading become a lifetime habit.
