Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis research discusses the use of the calculator in the classroom, most pertinent and controversial topic that still requires a lot of discussion in the school environment. Because there are differences in the use of calculators, specifically in the Elementary School this study aims to show how often they give (or not) use the calculator as a teaching strategy in the municipality of Itaporanga, Paraiba. For this we chose a room 6 of the largest public school in this city in order to verify evidence of the use of this instrument and how students and teachers perceive. So on the methodology adopted for this was a qualitative research study type simple case. We use as a tool for data acquisition to a semi-structured questionnaire was applied in October 2011 with students from the 6th year of the State School State School of Chagas Smith Elementary School, with an average of 90 minutes corresponding to two classes. The original intention was to observe how students and teachers perceived this instrument in the school environment. The results indicated that most students never used tools such as calculators and computers in mathematics classes. We also see a great difficulty in the use of function keys and the instrument by the students. We believe that this study indicates the need for discussions of this subject in the school environment in our region, as well as within the entire state. Also it is necessary to public policies aimed at training teachers of the state in order to learn how to learn every day to improve the quality of life of citizens of Paraíba.
