A resolução de problemas e o tratamento da informação: expectativas educacionais nos anos finais do ensino fundamental

This research was intended to make a brief investigative analysis of how students solve math problems involving basic concepts on the subject Information Processing in the school environment. For this we choose based on some theoretical and Van de Walle (2009), Dante (2000), Polya (1995), Pozo (1998), among others. The methodology of work was characterized as a descriptive study on the objectives. The analysis of data it is a simple case study which used semistructured questionnaires in data acquisition. The investigation occurred with 31 ninth grade students from two classes of Elementary public school in the city of João Pessoa. At the end of the study found little knowledge of students on the subject Information Processing, especially in attributing meanings of mathematics with problems of everyday life. Teachers had vague answers about the subject, indicated little knowledge of the subject and almost no application of this in their math classes in the School observed. This study clearly realized that the theme Data Processing should be further discussed with the teachers of basic education, being a subject still little-known and discussed by these professionals.
