Biblioteca Sesc Centro João Pessoa: estudo e proposta de política de gestão de coleções

The need for collections management policy may be evident from the moment that libraries are no longer mere deposits of bibliographic production and begin to address the specifics of its members or institutions, thus serving as a filter of information to be made available. Through the internship experience in SESC Library Center João Pessoa, there was the lack of a collection development policy, which prompted the study of how to place the activities of Collection Development process in the same, in view of the absence of a policy that guides this process. Dealing on this issue, this study intended to analyze the profile of users, their satisfaction with the acquis, the way this process and the feasibility of implementing a policy in that context. Therefore, it employed a quantitative and qualitative study, applied two questionnaires for the librarian and users. The results show that while users are satisfied with the acquis, the amount of items available have not met the growing demand, and that the absence of a policy has impoverished the service and the participation of the librarian responsible for related library. In this sense the need for a policy in this context it is essential, since many of these gaps, as well as others that may arise, would be able to be met, thus meeting the vicissitudes inherent in the library. However, under these circumstances it elaborated a policy for the purpose of guiding the management of informational items according to the purpose of the library presented herein.
