Busca e uso da informação pelos docentes do Programa de Pós-Graduação do CCHL/UFPB

Describes information behavior, needs and uses, as well as the barriers faced in the information search process, by the faculty of graduate programs of the Humanities Center and Letters (CCHL) campus I UFPB. Of descriptive and qualitative and quantitative, used to collect data mixed questionnaire, made in Google Docs, and sent by e-mail. For the analysis / interpretation of the data it employed categorization technique to the data of a qualitative nature; and statistical resources to the quantitative. The CCHL has eight of strict graduate sense programs, adding 158 teachers, the analysis / interpretation of the data revealed that these teachers are mostly female, aged between 41 and 50 years old, married, of White declared skin color and come from the Northeast, especially the state of Paraíba. With regard to the needs and information uses met a standard of information behavior, characterized by the use of the internet, through digital repositories, social networks, specialized websites and search engines, as the preferred site for finding information and preference by specialized publications as sources of information. These searches, for most teachers, have, as core motivations, the aid to their teaching and research activities and exchange information with peers. Regarding information barriers, most teachers said restricting access to information. Apart from this, a fact that drew attention was the presence of the language barrier, since all teachers because they are teachers of post-graduate studies programs, bearing the title of doctor, which gives them their proficiency, at least two languages, English being compulsory. Finally, this research makes clear the centrality of the use of new digital information and communication technologies in the information behavior of the subjects.
