Acquired conditions of the esophagus range from highly malignant neoplasms to \"persistent esophagitis\" that may be chronic and disabling or merely an occasional nuisance. The present work aims to report the case of a dog diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma of the submucosal gland of the esophagus, attended at “MinhaCriaVeterinários” clinic in João Pessoa-PB. The animal is a 9-year-old Shih-Tzu male dog. He was submitted to a clinical examination and performed several complementary exams such as hemogram, serum biochemistry, ultrasonography, radiography, electrocardiogram, cytology and biopsy. At the blood count was found a regenerative normocytic normochromic anemia. At the biochemical examination only alkaline phosphatase was above the reference value. The radiography revealed that in the cervical position of the trachea there is a structure of radiolucent opacity, evidencing dorsal displacement of the trachea. In the chest region, it has pulmonary fields with increased radiodensity identifying several nodules of varying sizes in every pulmonary parenchyma. Ultrasound examination revealed changes in the liver and prostate. Neoplastic cells with marked pleomorphism suggestive of adenocarcinoma were observed in cytological analysis. In the histopathological evaluation, there is a non-encapsulated nodule formed by neoplastic cells with moderate to severe pleomorphism. Some areas with submucosal glands remaining in the middle of the tumor, demonstrating the differentiation of these glands in neoplastic cells, confirming the diagnosis of Adenocarcinoma of the submucosal gland of the esophagus with solid pattern. In view of the diagnosis and clinical presentation of the patient, the surgical removal associated with chemotherapy (Doxorubicin, 30 mg / kg) was recommended to increase the patient's survival. It is concluded that despite the malignancy of the adenocarcinoma of the submucosal gland of the esophagus the animal remains alive. Emphasize, importance of the various complementary tests used to reach the diagnosis, among them, use of histopathological examination in clinical routine.","abstract_html":"Neoplasms are considered as one of the leading cause of death in dogs and cats.
