Desenvolvimento socioeconômico municipal: o caso de Caaporã-PB

The objective of this monograph is to discuss the municipal development of Caaporã City and to examine its economic and social profile from 2000 to 2013. It is also intended to analyze municipalization of the Millennium development objectives. The Caaporã City is located in the region of South Coast of Paraíba. In the latest phase, the city has passed by some changes in its productive base with the installation of large industrial units. As to methodological perspective, the study constitutes a exploratory and descriptive search made from data collected in secondary sources and in the reading of some bibliographic references. The development conceptions elaborated by authors as Joseph Stiglitz and Amartya Sen, that bring a criticism of Washington Consensus, baptized the theoretical support of this study. The analytical results obtained showed that Caaporã occupied great place among the cities of Paraíba in relation to IFDM job and income and showed improvement in quality and access to education. But it was found a situation of fragility in healthy area and the city showed the worst results in its region. In which refers to accompaniment of targets of The Millennium development objectives, the levels of poorness and malnutrition of population experienced a considerable improvement. The proportion of population that lived below of poorness line was reduced by half in the historical period studied. As the evolution of municipal public finances, realized up the extension of budget revenues, resulting mainly of passes of intergovernmental transfers. However, the city showed a low percentage of generation of own revenue compared to total tax revenue.
