It can occur unilaterally or bilaterally. They usually affect more dogs than cats, older animals from large to giant, and may appear in small breeds. Males are more affected than females, being quite common in breeds such as: Labrador, Golden Retriever, Flanders Cowboy, Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute. Complex polyneuropathy with laryngeal paralysis has been reported in Rottweiler, Dalmatian and Pyrenean Mountain Dog. There are several causes of paralysis, among them the most common is idiopathic laryngeal paralysis, the other forms are hereditary and acquired. The animals present several clinical signs related to respiration: respiratory discomfort, respiratory stridor, cyanosis, cough and dysphonia. In the present work the case of a male dog of the Dalmatian breed, aged 1 year and 3 months, was treated at the Agricultural Sciences Center of Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Paraíba. The anamnesis reported that the patient since the infant presented with tiredness, cough and noise in the breath mainly after some stress or practice of exercises.
