Migração interestadual de retorno e inserção no mercado de trabalho: evidências para o Nordeste do Brasil

This monograph aims to investigate the integration into the labor market of interstate migrants returned to northeastern Brazil. In particular, we tried to estimate the effect of immigration status on the likelihood of self-employment, comparing not returned migrants, return migrants and non-migrants. We used data from the 2010 Demographic Census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE ) applied to a model of occupational choice including estimates of differences in odds of self-employment by immigrationstatusforboth.Inthiscontext,wehighlighttheimportantoftheNortheastern states in absorbing migrant return. The states with the highest importance in the period 2005-2010 were Paraíba and Ceará. Statistical analysis of the data, in turn, helped to identify the occupational profile of the migrant return. It was found that the return migrant male is inserted in a meaningful way in the labor market on their own. Now if it is female, it will be inserted in the informal market. Migrants are on average younger than non-migrants, especially migrant not returned. Moreover, the higher the education level, the lower the chance of entering the market as standalone. The results showed that male workers, householders, white and with low levels of education have higher chances of entering the market as standalone. Moreover, it was observed that the condition of migrant return favors self-employment as compared to the conditions of migrant and non-migrant not returned. Such evidence may be related to possible skills and / or resources acquired during the migration period.
