A descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, which tried to sought a theoretical understand of issues that involve public policy in Brazil, its federal articulation and mechanisms of social participation. The working hypothesis is that the National Policy for Food and Nutrition Security represents, in the field of social policies in Brazil, an utmost important vector to deal social exclusion, besides being a social development strategy that generates employment and income in the countryside. It could be perceived that the actions triggered by the Policy Food Security has contributed to the improvement of social indicators in various areas, because the system is intersectoral and the tangible benefits for the population, especially those living in extreme poverty and currently a glimpse of overcoming endemic hunger could be thought as achievable.
