The development of experimental restorative materials to improve the longevity of restorations has become a reality in restorative dentistry. This study evaluated the effect of the incorporation of silver nanoparticles with different concentrations (by weight) in diametral tensile strength of experimental composite. The synthesis of silver nanoparticles was performed in aqueous medium using sodium citrate, followed by synthesis of the experimental resin. The different mixtures of composites were obtained with the addition of silver nanoparticles at concentrations of 0 (control); 0.06%; 0.125%; 0.25%; 0.5%; 1.0% and 2.0% weight, producing seven experimental resin composites. Cylindrical specimens were prepared in the silicone matrix (4mm in diameter and 2 mm height) for diametral tensile strength testing in a universal testing machine. Data were statistically analyzed by One-Way ANOVA test and Tukey (p= 0.05). The increasing of incorporation of silver nanoparticles in the experimental composite increased significantly the diametral tensile strength. The concentrations of 0.125%, 0.5% and 1.0% showed the highest values. There was no statistical difference between diametral tensile strength values of the group with the highest concentration of silver nanoparticles (2.0%) and the control group. According to the results, the concentration of 0.125% seems to be the most suitable for the experimental composite manipulation, due to its relatively low addition of silver nanoparticles and the largest value of resistance. However, other mechanical tests and antimicrobial activity tests of the experimental composite should be conducted.
