A inserção do desenvolvimento sustentável nos projetos de redução da pobreza rural do Banco Mundial no Estado da Paraíba
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIn the western economic development process the environment was treated merely as a supplier of raw materials. From the second half of the twentieth century, the search for a reconciliation between development and environmental management was initiated in the international system, given the perception of its finitude and the impacts caused by the period in which there were no limitations to its use. Thus, the sustainable development concept was built through debates, mainly on international conferences, and its insertion in cooperation projects in international organizations has become increasingly common. The example here used is the World Bank's agenda, which incorporated it in its discourse and initiatives, mainly from the 1990s. The present work seeks to analyze this process and relate it to the Cooperar Project, a rural poverty reduction initiative at Paraíba, implemented by the State Government in partnership with the World Bank, in order to identify in its trajectory the implementation of the main components related to the sustainable development concept. We use the Produzir Project, run in Bahia, to compare its trajectory with that of Cooperar (current nomenclature of the project executed in Paraíba), in order to also understand if there is insertion of sustainable development in both.
