Thus, it is necessary that the professionals to undertake the initial care are knowledgeable about the subject and know how to act in front of such cases. The urgent care for public patients in cases of avulsion should be done in the Basic Health Units (BHU’s) by a qualified health professional. Thus, the present study aimed to assess the level of knowledge and practical attitudes of doctors and nurses in the USB’s in João Pessoa – PB about dental avulsion by applying a semi-structured questionnaire adapted for the research. Health teams were visited and professionals were invited to participate through the Informed Consent Form (ICF), receiving explanations of the goals and the importance of research. Interviews were conducted with 74 professionals: 39 doctors and 35 nurses. Of these, 78.38% were female, 47.3% over 50 years of age, most graduated over 20 years in the UFPB. 87.84% do not feel prepared to attend cases of avulsion, 82.43% would like to receive training on the subject. Reimplantation was chosen as initial procedure by 12.82% of the doctors and 5.71% of the nurses. Ways of storing such as milk, saline or saliva were only indicated by 40.54% of respondents and 51.35% of them do not even know how long the item can be out of the socket for a good prognosis of the case. From 56.41% of doctors that said they knew a referral service for the treatment of dental trauma, 81.81% cited the CEO, who was also cited by 70.83% of the 68.57% of nurses that said they were aware of a referral service. Therefore, BHU’s doctors and nurses from João Pessoa-PB have limited knowledge on the subject and many would not perform the appropriate practical attitudes, but they feel is necessary and would like to know how to act in cases of tooth avulsion.","abstract_html":"Dental trauma is considered the largest public dentistry health problem where there is control of dental caries, and in cases of dental avulsion, the fast and efficient service is what will lead to a good prognosis.
