Often, caregivers suspect that something is different from normal development when trying to interact or even talk to them, do not seem to listen or do not play with other children. In clinical practice it is observed that caregivers begin their quest for health professionals and what follows is a pilgrimage for many medical specialties until the diagnosis is made. Much effort has been made so that these symptoms are identified as early as possible to start some type of early intervention. This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of caregivers about the paths taken by them in the search for information about diagnosis and treatment for their children with suspected autism. The results showed that mothers identify the signs that there is something different in the first years of a child's life, and then become a true pilgrimage in quest for diagnosis and treatment. Another issue raised in their speeches were fears that they must seek the public health services and generally have high financial costs of children with therapies. These data point to the discussion of the structure and training of professionals of network services so that children can be identified early and that mothers get more and better information about available therapies.","abstract_html":"Children with known or suspected autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or autism are usually identified after three years old.
