A influência do Papa João Paulo II na queda do regime comunista na Polônia.

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This piece of work aims to analyze the fall of the communist regime in Poland in the year of 1989. It is important to state, however, that the final years of the Cold War introduced a range of new actors that contributed to the American preponderance in the international system after the demise of the USSR. Among them, we can highlight the rebirth of the oldest diplomacy in the world, which was able to ascend among the high players in the system once again: the Holy See. This work aims to understand how the Vatican was able to influence the change on the Polish government system. Towards that end, we will analyze how the change in the Vatican leadership on the year of 1978 contributed to the shift in its foreign policy towards an anti-communism policy that contributed to the fall of the Polish communist regime. Will be used methods for the analysis of the role of individuals in the decision making process and focus on the person of the Pope John Paul II as an international leader in the field of religion, highlighting his role in the process and emphasizing the reason for him being considered one of the most important leaders in the event.
