Abstract
dc:description.abstractIn 2007, the former diplomat Roberto Abdenur claimed in a interview with Veja magazine that the foreign policy of the Lula government possessed "anti- American" elements. In order to check this hypothesis, this report seeks to define the meaning of the concept of anti-Americanism; to draw a historical line in which this type of argument (contraposition between positions "pro-American" and "anti- American") falls, since the Republic Proclamation until the early 1990s; finally, seen from a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the selected data, if it is possible identify aspects "anti-American" into concret results of the Foreign Policy in the period. In view of the historical development of bilateral relations Brazil- United States, it is concluded that there are no elements which suggest the manifestation of anti-American practices in the Brazilian Foreign Policy of the Lula government. Anyway, it is proposed a concept of anti-Americanism, based on Keohane and Katzenstein formulations (2007) and the specifities of the Brazilian case.
