A mídia brasileira e a entrada da Venezuela no Mercosul: uma análise sobre a visão da Folha de São Paulo e O Estado de São Paulo

This work aims to analyze the coverage of the newspapers Folha de São Paulo and O Estado de São Paulo on the accession of Venezuela to MERCOSUR. It seeks to understand how both newspapers reported the case and if there was by any means an attempt to influence the new member's accession course. In order for the analysis to be possible, 295 news from editorials, opinion articles and informative reports published by the two newspapers depicting the theme were analyzed. The discussion of the relationship between the media and international relations (with emphasis on the discussions regarding foreign policy and its actors, domestic groups and the formulation of preferences, and the relationship between media and foreign policy) in conjunction with the exhibition of the development process of MERCOSUR and the main political and economic facts of the Venezuela's accession process served as a theoretical framework for this paper.
