O filme Mary e Max: uma amizade diferente na representação da Síndrome de Asperger

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The present work has for target the analysis of Mary and Max movie - a different friendship - in order to expand comprehension regarding Asperger syndrome inside Autistic Spectrum, from understanding hermeneutics and semiotics application of the movie language. For this reason Aspenger syndrome was conceptualized and described in the special education context considering movie language inputs. The movie Mary and Max was summarized and analysed from short theorising regarding the cinema and autistic spectrum through hermeneutic methodology as a way of understanding as long as it also enabled a vertical analysis about the movie, especially the main character Max. The most relevant conclusions were that a person who has Asperger syndrome will have difficulties to build up a self image, once his social skills, due to reduced emotions and sensibility, are culturally affected. The subject sees the world in a systematic, organized, rational way, even literally, never accepting breaking out of routine, once there is no space for mistakes or divergences. He also presents language and communication struggles, motor skills troubles and also shows no interests regarding some subjects regarding learning and thinking. The Asperger subject often builds up abstract thinking while he doesn ́t show a practical daily sense, for this reason his learning process disregards emotional aspects and overvalues intellectual processing, which makes his life point of view quite literal and logical, inside his organized background, which does not take any consideration with the real world with its complexity and disorganization. The main movie character Max as an Asperger subject, sees the world politically correct, with its regulations been applied word by word, over organized, disregarding emotions and whole world comprehension.
