Brazil comprise a considerable place in the position of countries which consumes more medicines , m aking it one of the explanations for the large investment in advertising on them. The medicines’ advertisement is defined as “a set of persuasion activities with the objetive which aims to disseminate knowledge, make it known and/or prestigious particular brand in order to influence the p ublic. In Paraiba there is not records of recent studies in this subject, academic databases record 2003 to 2009 articles, which puts this work as a new look at the subject. The objective of this research is to assess, the relationship user/advertising/con sumption from impressions of the students from Campus I of the Federal University of Paraiba on drugs advertisements. For this was accomplished a descriptive study of exploratory nature, using as a basis a stratified sample of 126 students of both sexes a nd all CCHLA courses being the tool used a semi - structured questionnaire, where for passing variables we used Chi Square test and Fisher's Exact test when p <0.05. The prevalence of self - medication among these students according to sex was higher among wom en in the freq uencies a t feces (30.15%) and often (19.05%), as well as the motivation to buy drugs also . From the elements that have motivated the purchase of the aforementioned medicines, friends' indications (80,95%), fol lowed by clerks' (56,35%) and TV advertisements (54,76%) are also prevalent. The outcomes have shown that the practise of self - medication is also present among those with higher levels of education, given that 94% of these individuals confirmed that medicine advertisements have influence d them. Even with the introduction of a new RDC (96/08), there is no significant change in patterns of self - medication consumption, once the reasons to use them are not exclusively related to propaganda, but also recommendations from friends and clerks.
