We approached in the first chapter a brief history about the Children Educations in Brazil, in order to make a relation to the changes occurred until present days. In the second chapter, we dealt with the teaching practice in its overall context, in order to make a relation with our personal experiences in classrooms we have observed in the CREI. In this perspective, we presented the results in terms of a qualitative research of the teaching practice of the teacher of the Children Education, as well as his conceptions concerning this area. It deals with a qualitative research which had as field a CREI of the municipal schools, being observed four classrooms and four teachers. We used as sources of investigation a questionnaire with subject questions and the weekly observation, counting on the field diary. Abordamos no primeiro capítulo um breve histórico sobre a Educação Infantil no Brasil, fazendo relação às transformações ocorridas até os dias atuais. No segundo capítulo, tratamos sobre a prática docente em seu contexto geral, fazendo relação com a nossa vivência nas salas que observamos no CREI. Nessa perspectiva, apresentamos os resultados referentes a um estudo qualitativo da prática docente do professor da educação infantil, bem como suas concepções acerca dessa área. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa que teve como campo um CREI da Rede Municipal de Ensino, sendo observadas quatro salas de aula e quatro professoras. Utilizamos como fonte de pesquisa o questionário com questões abertas e a observação semanal, contando com o diário de campo.
