Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The school is the place where we have to enter the world, it is that our learning will be developed for future application. From this, it is necessary that learners have access to a framework of information that place them in a medium that is constantly evolving at an accelerated rate. Among the various issues that permeate our learning, the theme of microorganisms is present and necessary as these are constantly present in our daily lives, whether through food, medicine, fuel and others. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze, from a psychological meaning network, the knowledge that learners of EJA (high school), have about microorganisms, emphasizing the cyanobacterium Spirulina genre. For the development of this study were selected two groups of the fifth cycle, the content related to microorganisms, had not yet been given; and three classes of the sixth cycle, the contents of microorganism had been taught in the classroom. The activities were carried out during the period from February to May 2016, through weekly meetings, and were divided into three steps: I) - survey of prior knowledge; II) pedagogical interventions by presenting lectures and practical classes, and III) survey of the effectiveness of educational interventions. The activities I and III were developed through the application of a tool for Natural Semantic Network (NSN), which investigated the psychological stimuli meaning of words, Spirulina, Microorganism and Microbe. The results obtained during the first activity revealed that regardless of the class that was worked, prior knowledge that learners had about the evoked terms were confused with vague and negative connotations. Pedagogical interventions provided a better understanding of the word stimuli that have been mentioned, as for learners of the sixth cycle, the terms "Dirt" and "Worm", which appeared at first as defining words Microbe term after the educational intervention they disappeared and were replaced by the words that represent the world of microbes. Moreover, these learners equal understood with regard to the definition of Microbe and Microorganism. This, however was, not what happened to the students of the fifth cycle, as to these there are still differences between these terms, the first, most often defined by negative connotations. Regarding the word Spirulina stimulus, learners of both cycles showed that understood better this term, as words that defined the format, taxonomy and applications that cyanobacteria have formed the semantic network of these learners. In general, found to pedagogical interventions improved significantly the quality and breadth of knowledge that learners had, and the use of NSN was a powerful tool for understanding the cognitive knowledge that the selected public brought with him, allowing understand what concepts should be improved and/or reworked to achieve a better improvement in learning.
