Considerações sobre a preservação e conservação do acervo do arquivo da Prefeitura Municipal de João Pessoa - PB

The present article presents as the main theme the importance of preservation and conservation of archival collections. It aims to analyze the means that were adopted in the preservation and conservation of the collection of the Archive of the Municipal City Hall of João Pessoa - PB. Also, it is characterized as a bibliographic and descriptive research, with quantitative and qualitative approach in the data analysis. The sample is composed by five interviewees. The data appointed that, in practice, the deterioration of archives is a factor of great preoccupation of the managers, once the lifespan of archives is a fundamental condition to the construction of History through knowledge. In addition, the interviewees participated of training courses in order to know better the care needed for the preservation and conservation of collections. It is concluded that the Chief of Archive is the general responsible by all the providences taken to the preservation and conservation of document, as well as to repass the actions needed to the work team, the archival technicians. In addition to the necessary education, all of the interviewees affirmed that had training courses to improve their knowledge.
