At the same time, companies have increasingly assumed the role of providers and have been called to social action by both the communities and the government itself. Given this scenario and in a context where the exercise of corporate social responsibility to contribute to sustainable development, the question now is how can a big company balance the interests of their business with the needs and expectations of government and communities in their surroundings. This study intends to investigate how a large company can contribute to the development of the communities where it operates, without abandoning the purpose and interests of its business. To achieve the proposed objective it was decided to exploratory research, qualitative in nature, limiting the sample in six institutions whose work is prominently dedicated to promoting local development in their communities. It was also the availability of access to information and an outline of the successful cases in local development projects funded by Petrobras / UO-ES. Interviews were conducted with the managers of the selected institutions and professionals who have worked and / or work as managers of social projects.
