Interpretações da Operação Lava-Jato no mercado editorial brasileiro (2016-2021)
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis study analyzes how the Car Wash Operation was interpreted within the Brazilian publishing market from 2016 to 2021. This specific timeframe covers the impeachment of President Dilma Vana Rousseff and extends to the moment Sergio Fernando Moro, the leading judicial figure of the Car Wash Operation (and by then already exonerated from his role as Minister of Justice and Public Security in former President Jair Messias Bolsonaro's government), published his book, sharing his insights on the task force. The primary goal of this research is to understand the main ideas presented in six selected works, utilizing discourse analysis to identify potential commonalities among their authors. The works were chosen based on four criteria: sales volume, the author's direct involvement in Car Wash, journalistic significance, and cultural impact. Additionally, this study offers a critical comparative reading of works by Car Wash authors and prominent essayists of Brazilian social thought. This comparison highlights how the Car Wash authors incorporate prevalent interpretations of Brazil, touching on themes such as corruption, patrimonialism, modernization, national projects, and political reform, among others. The first chapter sets the historical stage for Car Wash’s inception and operation, detailing the measures implemented by the Workers' Party (PT) governments between 2003 and 2015. The second chapter traces Car Wash’s emergence, its key developments, and its broader consequences. Finally, the third chapter delves into the works of the Car Wash authors. Employing a theoretical framework of discourse analysis, it scrutinizes the political ideas embedded in their writings and conducts a comparative analysis with works by 19 and 20 -century Brazilian social thought essayists, revealing possible parallels between the Car Wash authors' narratives and established ideas in Brazilian political thought.
