Alice: uma aventura intersemiótica sob o olhar da sátira menipéia

The adaptations of literary works to film are becoming increasingly common which provides discussions about fidelity and hierarchy of the ‘original’ (literary texts) and ‘copy’ (movie). However, the reading/interpretation of a literary work and the transposition of text to movie promote semiotic transformations peculiar themselves to each medium. In this context, we will analyze the intersemiotic translation of the books The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There (1871), by the English writer Lewis Carroll to the movie Alice in Wonderland (2010), directed by Tim Burton in order to investigate the proximities and distances of the written texts to the filmic under the gaze of menippean satire, comic-serious genre that mixes fantasy and satire to ridicule behavioral patterns and social conventions. This paper, therefore, aims to analyze the presence of menippean satire in books and its translation into film production.
