Firstly, it was necessary to understand the concept of currency, carrying out a review of the literature of Fisher, Keynes and Marx. Second, it was necessary to know how the US hegemony was consolidated and began to be understood at levels of the international payments. Next, seeking to contextualize the creation of cryptocurrencies and their role in recent financial innovations. Finally, it was observed whether such innovations influenced central banks to initiate studies for the creation and adoption of their own currencies in digital format.
