Do Centro de Atenção Psicossocial ao mercado de trabalho: trajetórias laborais de usuários de um CAPS em Salvador

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This master’s thesis aimed to describe the trajectory of professional insertion of the users of the Franco Basaglia Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS) into the labor market in Salvador. A qualitative research methodology was employed, starting with a bibliographic review on the relationship between mental health and work. Subsequently, direct observations were conducted at CAPS Franco Basaglia (where the interviews were also carried out) to understand the service's dynamics, the profile of the individuals served, geographic challenges and opportunities, and the services offered. The research included the participation of thirteen individuals: nine men and four women, according to the criterion of self-identification. This study utilized semi-structured interviews, which were recorded and transcribed. The thesis is organized into three chapters. The first chapter thoroughly discusses the work processes at Psychosocial Care Centers, their strategies, tools, instruments of care, working hours, challenges, and potentialities regarding the use of work as a means of social inclusion. Continuing, the second chapter provides an analysis of CAPS Franco Basaglia, located in Piatã, Salvador, and the therapeutic journeys of the participants within this health service. Lastly, the third chapter presents a theoretical-practical articulation about the trajectory of some CAPS users in the labor market. At the end of the analysis, it was understood that the CAPS contributed to a change in the understanding of the relationship between mental health and work. If before the work functions were understood as a kind of mental orthopedics, from the Psychosocial Care Centers, work became one of the pillars for the psychosocial rehabilitation policy. On the other hand, the precariousness and exploitation of the workforce typical of the contemporary capitalist system and the processes of stigmatization hinder the viability of a dignified life, with the guarantee of rights and political, social, cultural, material and symbolic links that favor the autonomy and emancipation of people who suffer from some type of mental disorder.
