Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Burnout Syndrome is known as a phenomenon of the modern times, resulting from the interaction of chronic stress in the work environment and personal characteristics. Recognized in several professions, it becomes quite common among professionals and students in the health field. Global exhaustion, depersonalization and decline in professional satisfaction mark the symptomatological triad of the Syndrome. The general intention of this research is to analyze an emotional regulation program for undergraduate Medicine students, using dance as a therapeutic resource, with a focus on preventing and coping with Burnout Syndrome. Using a quasi-experimental methodology, the study was carried out with a sample of 176 students from Medicine courses in the Southwest region, invited to answer an online questionnaire composed of scales for the dimensions of burnout and emotional regulation, in a pre-test. Participants with higher scores on the burnout scales and lower scores on emotional regulation were invited to participate in the intervention, based on dance techniques; subsequently, they responded to a post-test, consisting of the burnout and emotional regulation scales and subjective questions about the intervention. The results indicate a 10.8% burnout rate among students and a positive relationship between the use of maladaptive strategies and burnout syndrome. The intervention process took place with a small group of students, who evaluated the process as significantly positive, considering the importance of implementing support and care measures to cope with academic stress. Thus, with the idea of contributing to the emotional regulation of medical students and thus promoting the training of safer professionals, based on the Research Line "Human Development and Educational Practices in Health" of the Professional Master's Degree in Health Psychology (UFBA - IMS/CAT), which focuses on studies aimed at human development and its relationship with health at different stages of life, This study proposes, as a final product, the creation of a report for the participating universities, in the format of a technical technological product, a notebook was created with the step-by-step meetings that made up the intervention carried out here, as a suggestion for creating a set of mental health care actions in medical courses.
