Cannabis, the scientific name of the genus of plants popularly known as marijuana, offers enormous economic potential as it can be used for medicinal purposes, as well as raw material for manufacturing a vast range of products. Despite all its multifunctionality, its consumption and cultivation are still prohibited by Brazilian legal system. This research aims to verify the socioeconomic impacts of the legalization of cannabis cultivation in Brazil, highlighting possible benefits and harms that an eventual regulation could bring. The method used for bibliographic production was exploratory, descriptive and qualitative, using Google Scholar and Science Direct as search engines.
