Throughout the 20th century, carnival incorporated the most varied cultural manifestations of the place, although this had always been a reason for intense class and ethnic disputes. Therefore, it is possible to affirm that the party, even expressing the most legitimate representations of the city's inhabitants, has always been a stage for intense conflicts that resulted in exclusions and segregations, especially of the poor and black population. Depending on political, economic factors and the appropriation of techniques, carnival always alternated between moments that occurred with greater or lesser intensity.
